FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) -

Alaskans who want to vote in the upcoming primary election need to register by the deadline on Sunday July 19.

“If you’re registered now, you’ll be registered for both the primary and general but this deadline is specific for the primary election,” said Region III Elections Supervisor Jeremy Johnson.

Residents can register to vote online, by mailing, faxing or emailing a paper registration, or in person at a Division of Elections office or other voter registration agencies in the area.

“As a voter, you just need to know your own personal information, your address, your mailing address, which political affiliation you choose to select, or nonpartisan or undeclared. It’s pretty simple, shouldn’t take too long to fill that out,” said Johnson.

Johnson says they do see an increase in people registering to vote as the deadline gets closer.

“This year, folks might be concerned about going to the polling place, [but] they can choose to get a ballot mailed to them at home,” said Johnson.

More information on how to register to vote or request a ballot by mail on the Alaska Division of Elections website.
