Candidate filing period opens for municipal election
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) -
Candidate filing for the municipal election opened Wednesday, July 15th. For the Fairbanks North Star Borough, there are three seats on the Assembly available, as are three seats on the School Board and 2 seats on the Interior Alaska Natural Gas Utility Board. Two seats on the Fairbanks City Council and two seats on North Pole’s City Council are also available.
Current assembly member Jimi Cash filed for re-election to assembly seat E. He spoke to the importance of municipal elections, saying, “Municipal elections are the level that affect you the most. That sets your property taxes, that sets fines, that sets everything down to the dog catcher.”
Aaron Lojewski also filed for re-election, for Seat H on the borough assembly. He encouraged those thinking of running for a position to not let lack of experience be held against them.
“Oftentimes, an inexperienced person can bring fresh ideas,” Lojewski said.
