Alaska Nanooks women’s basketball add Loriaunna Sanchez
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) -
The Alaska Nanooks women’s basketball program added another player to their roster, getting Loriaunna Sanchez from Shoreline Community College. Sanchez is a 5′10′' forward from Kent, Washington who led Shoreline in scoring her freshman year and led the Northwest Athletic Conference in rebounding.
“They made me feel like I was already a part of the team before I even committed in any way,” said Sanchez on joining the Nooks. “It’s just a family feeling that I felt. Just talking with them.”
Sanchez averaged 15.4 points and 14.3 rebounds per game for the Shoreline Dolphins. Rebounding has been a weak spot for the Nanooks, giving up around 41 rebounds a game last year which ranked last in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. By adding Sanchez in comparison to last season she would be the rebounding leader by a margin of seven rebounds.
“I just have to come harder, ready to work because it’s going to be different. A different environment.” said Sanchez.
Sanchez joins a 2020 recruiting class that includes the 2020 Alaska Gatorade Player of the Year, Destiny Reimers from Anchorage Christian Schools, Soldotna’s Ituau Tuisaula and Galena’s Pearle Green.
Sanchez has’t decided on a major yet.
