FNSB School Board votes to continue school activities
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - In a vote of 6 to 1, the FNSB School Board voted in favor of school activities continuing despite the current pandemic. In Monday night’s school board meeting the Executive Director of the Alaska School Activities Association (ASAA), Billy Strickland, spoke on behalf of keeping school activities going by following ASAA COVID guidelines that were last updated July 15, 2020. Strickland showed statistics of how after school activities, including sports and music programs, positively affect the mental, physical, and academic health of students overall. School Board member, Chrya Sanderson motioned to continue activities according to the ASAA guidelines. Erin Moratti motioned to amend the original motion to continue school activities only when students are able to come back to school campuses. Moratti’s motion was unanimously voted down. With Monday’s vote, school activities can still take place while learning remotely and home schooling are the only options. Moratti was the lone nay vote to continue school activities.
