Construction Report: UAF road project nears completion
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - A road improvement project on the University of Alaska Fairbanks is nearly finished. Over the weekend crews finished painting the road. The project aimed at improving the intersection of Tanana Loop and Alumni Drive.
“If you drive through campus fairly frequently then you will know that it can get to be pretty congested especially at the peak traffic times,” said DOT Northern Region Information Officer Caitlin Frye.
There were multiple road closures as crews worked to shift the upper road away from the intersection. They also built new medians in an attempt to improve traffic flow.
The intersection wasn’t the only goal of the project Frye said, “This project also included a bunch of drainage work and also work on sidewalks and paths in the area, like pedestrian paths. So there was more work than just that intersection.”
They have almost completed the work but are still finishing some of the sidewalks and landscaping. The rest of the work is expected to be finished by the end of August.
