Fairbanks man drowns in Harding Lake

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - According to a report from the Alaska State Troopers, a Fairbanks man drowned in Harding Lake on Saturday, August 22. At 6:07 p.m. on Saturday the Alaska State Troopers (AST) in Fairbanks received a call reporting a drowning at the lake. Salcha Fire & Rescue and AST responded. Dustin R. Baxter, a 31 year old man of Fairbanks, dove into the lake from a boat. He failed to resurface and bystanders were unable locate him.  Salcha Fire & Rescue and Alaska Wildlife Troopers (AWT) searched the lake until darkness. On Sunday, AWT, AST and Salcha Fire & Rescue personnel returned to Harding Lake and resumed the search, where they eventually located and recovered Baxter’s body after several hours. The state medical examiner’s office, as well as next of kin have been notified.
