Pet of the Week: This Sherman is looking for his Mr. Peabody
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - In honor of National Dog Day, we’re barking mad for this friendly canine! 1 year-old Sherman is looking for his Mr. Peabody, and it could be you! Let’s meet this good boy in News 13′s Pet of the Week!
Here’s what Sarah Harman, an animal tender with Fairbanks North Star Borough Animal Shelter, had to say:
"My name is Sarah, I am here at the Fairbanks North Star Borough Animal Shelter with our pet of the week. This week we have a year and a half old heeler mix named Sherman. He is a very sweet boy.
He came to us as a stray so we don't know a whole lot about his history. Since he has been here he has been very friendly with all of his tenders and strangers that come by. We don't know how he does with other dogs and would recommend that he go to a house without small animals or cats, as heelers tend to have herding instincts and can be a little overwhelming for smaller animals sometimes.
We also don't know how he does around kids so we would use caution introducing him to younger humans. He is very sweet however, just seems to want a lot of love.
Heelers are a working breed and require a lot of energy. Lots of play time and mental stimulation to keep them happy and out of trouble. He needs a very active home who can work with him. He doesn't seem to know basic commands so a basic obedience class would be highly beneficial for this young man. He seems to be very food motivated though so training him should be easy.
If Sherman isn’t the dog for you we have lots of other dogs that are becoming available. We are very full right now so check us out on Pet Harbor to see who else we have available. We also have several cats and lots of small animals available for adoption.”
