City council fails to override Mayor Matherly veto of resolution 4932

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - On August 31st, the Fairbanks City Council voted on whether or not to override a veto submitted by city Mayor Jim Matherly over Resolution 4932.

After hearing public testimony and comments from councilmembers and Matherly, the council failed to gather the 5 votes necessary to overturn the veto, with the final vote being 4-2 in favor of the resolution, Councilmembers Jerry Cleworth and Aaron Gibson voted against. Each councilmember voted the same as they did at the council meeting on August 24th.

The resolution, which involves the distribution of up to $749,000 in CARES Act funds to nonprofit Explore Fairbanks, received the same vote of 4-2 in favor at a council meeting on August 24th.
