Searchers locate body of man missing from Arctic Village

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - On September 13, 2020 at approximately 2:00 p.m. Alaska State Troopers received a report of a missing person in Arctic Village. Mark L. James, 47 of Arctic Village, was last seen on his ATV sometime during the evening hours of September 12, 2020.

Searchers located James' abandoned ATV near the airport, close to a nearby lake. AST and Alaska Wildlife Troopers responded to Arctic Village on September 14, 2020 to assist with the search. James' foot prints were located near the lake at the end of the day. AST & AWT left the village with plans to return the next day. 

Within a few hours local searchers located James' body in the lake. On September 15, 2020 AST returned to Arctic Village and recovered the body. The State Medical Examiner’s Office called for an autopsy. The family was notified. There is no apparent foul play involved.
