Pet of the Week: Meet Stitch, the 8 month old Husky mix
Stitch is a friendly dog looking for his Lilo!
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Those on the lookout for a friend with boundless energy and enthusiasm to spare, look no further than our out-of-this-world Pet Of The Week -- the 8-month old Alaskan husky mix, Stitch.
Here’s what Sarah Harman, an animal tender with Fairbanks North Star Borough Animal Shelter, had to say:
“This week we have 8-month old Mr. Stitch here. He is an Alaskan husky mix. Very young, but very sweet. He has a lot of learning still left to do, and would benefit highly from someone who has time to take him to basic obedience classes. He’s very smart and already has a couple tricks up his sleeve, but he could definitely use some reinforcement since he is still young. He may also need a little help reinforcing his potty training. He’s been keeping his kennel clean since he’s been here. But being young and in a new environment he’ll probably have a couple accidents still.
Alaskan Huskies are a very active breed, and so he needs a home that can give him lots of exercise and mental stimulation to help keep him out of trouble. If he is not provided with enough activity or interesting things to do he will find them himself, and they may not be things you particularly like. So if you are an active family with lots of activities and outdoor things you like to do, he would be a great companion for you.
He is said to do well with other dogs but he has not been introduced to cats or other small animals before. And given that Alaskan Huskies tend to have a very high prey drive, we would recommend using extreme caution if you have other small animals in your home already. If Stitch is not the one for you we have a lot of other dogs available as well as some cats and other small animals. So check us out and see if you can’t find a new friend.”
