Customers wait in long lines as Fairbanks' first Sonic opens
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Fairbanks now has a Sonic, after months of waiting and delays. Sonic opened on Monday and customers hoping for some of the chain drive-in restaurants' signature food were greeted by long lines, with dozens of cars stretched into the nearby road. We spoke with some of the customers waiting in line, they all said the wait was worth it.
“Of course, every bit of it. I’m from the lower-48 so this up here is something new,” said Chase Jernigan who has been waiting in line nearly an hour.
Why are the customers so willing to wait?
"We’re excited, we have been waiting for so long. I mean it’s Sonic, it’s Sonic it’s exciting,” said friends Leilani Ward, Laila Larranaga and Wanzetta Morning.
“We used to eat Sonic all the time in Texas, and we are looking for something to give us that memory back," said Brian Jones.
“Sonic, I remember going to one as a little kid and now we actually have one here, so, food,” Sean Pancho said.
We also asked customers what they will order when they finally do get through the line.
“Slushies, tatertots, probably a burger, hot dog of course too, said friends Sarah Bixby and Emma Perkins.
“Super Sonic Burger, and a Route 44 Cherry Limeaid," said Jones.
“She has a list. Yeah, I am going to get probably some boneless wings, milkshake, some mozzarella sticks, slushies, everything, yeah everything," Ward, Larranaga and Morning said.
