FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Effective at 11:30 AM today, the Noel Wien Library located at 1215 Cowles Street in Fairbanks is now closed due to a borough employee testing positive for COVID-19.

FNSB administration was notified this morning of the employee testing positive, and measures were immediately implemented to close the building, ask patrons to leave the building, and send all employees home and begin the close contact tracing procedure.

Close contact is defined by the CDC as someone who was within 6 feet of an infected person for at least 15 minutes starting from two days before illness onset (or, for asymptomatic clients, 2 days prior to positive specimen collection) until the time the patient is isolated. No library patrons have been identified as close contacts. Close contact analysis with staff is still in progress.

The borough has strict COVID-19 cleaning protocols which will be carried out by a contractor and will commence later today.

The library will be closed for cleaning until further notice. The Mayor’s office will notify the public when it is safe to reopen the building. The health and safety of all library patrons and visitors, along with our employees, is important. We sincerely apologize for the service interruption.
