Pet of the Week: Meet Gray, the two year old Alaskan husky mix
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Despite her name, this pup is guaranteed to make your days full of sunshine!
“Gray” is also in the group of dogs we featured last week, and she’s excited to find someone to bring her home!
Here’s what Sarah Harman, an animal tender with Fairbanks North Star Borough Animal Shelter, had to say:
“Gray is approximately two years old. An Alaskan husky mix. She came to us from a different situation, there were a lot of dogs that weren’t super well supervised -- mostly living outdoors and kind of fending for themselves. So she might need some help adjusting to normal pet dog life. She would greatly benefit from obedience class to help her socialize with humans, and get used to being in a home environment with her new people.
While at the shelter, Gray has done a pretty good job at keeping her kennel clean -- however in a new home she may need some help relearning how to be housebroken. Alaskan huskies are generally pretty smart and food motivated, and therefore easy to train. They do need a lot of physical exercise and mental stimulation to keep them out of trouble however.
Gray has primarily had to fend for herself, so introducing her to new animal housemates needs to be done slowly. Putting away toys and food items when they are not being played with, and making sure you’re properly supervising them while she learns to properly interact with other animals is very important.
We do not how how she does around cats, small animals, or children -- but she has been very friendly to her animal caretakers while at the shelter.
Gray has had a bit of a rough start to life, and can use a family with a lot of patience and time to dedicate to helping her be the best pet she can be. If Gray is not the dog for you, we do have several other dogs available as well as some cats and other small animals. Please check out our website and see if you can’t find yourself a new friend."
