FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) -As October begins, so does flu season here in Alaska’s Interior. In order to minimize the threat posed by influenza on top of COVID-19, the Tanana Valley Clinic is offering a new system for delivering flu shots.

According to TVC Practice manager for pediatrics, Jacob Merrit, “TVC Offers a flu shot clinic every single year. But this year for the first time ever we did it as a drive-through so that we could minimize contact people had to have coming into the building, [and] also minimize contact for the staff.”

For the rest of October, patients can get their flu vaccinations at Tanana Valley Clinic downtown on the corner of 10th and Noble without having to leave their car.

“It’s recommended from all levels that you get [the vaccination] to cut down on any flu symptoms you might end up having. But also this year with COVID making it a little more complicated for us to tell what you’ve got, it’s just highly encouraged.” Merrit said.

Patients of all ages can receive their vaccinations this way. Merrit told us, “There’s someone there who’s used to doing adult immunizations, and there’s someone there to do the specialty pediatric immunizations.”

The drive-in is available by appointment only, and will be open noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Anyone can call 459-3520 to make an appointment.
