Longtime partner of dog musher Lance Mackey dies in ATV accident
Jenne Metolie, longtime girlfriend of musher Lance Mackey, died in an ATV accident on Sunday.
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - According to a Facebook post published Wednesday morning, Jenne Metolie, longtime girlfriend of musher Lance Mackey, died in an ATV accident on Sunday.
“It is with great sadness that I say my friend, my partner, the mother of my babies died in an ATV accident on Sunday night. The babies are safe, they were home with me at the time. Family and neighbors have been here helping us and Jenne’s parents are coming up today. Jenne was my rock during my rehab and recovery. She will continue to be with the kids and I as they grow into the amazing people she knew they would be.”
Lance Mackey and Jenne Metolie, who is known legally as Jennifer Smith, share a 4-year-old son and a 2-year-old daughter.
According to the Alaska State Trooper dispatch, troopers received a 911 call at approximately 10:00 a.m. Monday morning, reporting that Jennifer Smith, 32 of Fairbanks, was discovered deceased near a friend’s residence on Revolution Road. Based on preliminary investigation it appears that Smith rolled her ATV late Sunday night and became trapped underneath it. Smith was not believed to be wearing a helmet at the time of the collision. Next of Kin has been notified.
