UAF women’s basketball to participate in nationwide Race for Change 5K

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - The Alaska Nanooks women’s basketball program will participate in a nationwide ‘Race for Change’ 5K this month with the goal of creating change in their local community. The funds that are raised will go to the Nanook Diversity and Action Center.

“You see on the news that the social justice stuff right now really rampant across all sports,” said Alaska Nanooks Head Coach Kerri Nakamoto. “You know across all levels and I think it’s important that student-athletes use their voices and their influence in a positive way for their community and the community of others.”

The race is set to run from October 15-18 with the mission of supporting diversity and inclusiveness.

“It was something that we discussed with some of our team,” said Coach Nakamoto. “They wanted to be a part of it.”
