KTVF wraps up annual coat drive benefiting Fairbanks community
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - KTVF has wrapped up its annual Coat Drive, in partnership with United Way of the Tanana Valley (UWTV), Madden Real Estate and Northern Laundry Services.
On October 13, representatives from the four entities met at UWTV to sort through and organize the coats, which had been laundered by Northern Laundry Services.
UWTV Interim Executive Director Jennifer Luke explained that this coat drive has been going on for 10 years. “Every year it just gets bigger and better and more community involvement, and it’s incredible to see the end result, to ensure that people are warm all winter long.”
This year’s haul included coats, winter gear, snow pants, hats, gloves and boots.
Jordan Sanford, General Manager with Northern Laundry Services, said that just under 1,000 pounds of coats were received during the drive. “We’re happy to be involved and ensure that the coats are clean, and we’re giving clean coats out to the community, especially because of COVID,” she said.
According to Luke, the donated clothing will be sent out to UWTV’s nineteen partner agencies, including Bread Line, Inc. and Thrivalaska, then opened up to the public for pickup at United Way.
Taylor Hallgrimson, Marketing Director at Madden Real Estate, said, “We love to make sure that our community involvement is primed to what we do at our office. We like to sell houses and work with community members, but part of that is making sure that our community is also served and kept warm.”
Luke said, "What’s really incredible about this winter gear drive is that it brings a lot of the non-profits together. We’re getting coats and winter gear from the entire community to ensure that those who are most in need of winter gear are warm this winter. And we ensure that winter gear gets to those who need it the most.
