Monroe and Lathrop play out the final football game of the 2020 Interior season
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - The 2020 high school football season in the Interior, Alaska came to an end with the Lathrop Malemutes taking on the Monroe Catholic Rams on October 16. On a cold October night, the Malemutes were able to win 26-20 over Monroe.
Lathrop was led by the play of junior quarterback Jarren Littell who scored twice on the ground as he found holes behind the play of their senior lineman.
“At the end of the day we thank Monroe for giving us another game because it could have been the end of the season last week.” said Lathrop senior Emmanuel Jennings.
The purple and gold were able to hold off a late rally by Monroe who saw senior quarterback Shaun Conwell gain first downs with arm and legs on numerous drives. This ends the perfect the season for Monroe, but the future is bright for the Rams. In their first season under Head Coach Kyle Allison, the Rams went from the bottom of the standings to steamrolling their opponents.
“Close game like this, almost came through with it but you know we learn from it," said Monroe senior Shaun Conwell. "It was really good and I’m happy for this team in what we did.”
One of the players on Monroe that played in his final game was Davie Smith. Smith played despite having to commute from Healy as part of the Triv-Valley and Monroe Catholic High School collaboration.
“It’s hard to explain, they really accepted me into their family and I’m really happy about that," said Monroe senior Davie Smith. "Like there’s no words for it. It’s jut been a heck of a experience. That’s pretty much it.”
This ends the season for the football teams from Region VI.
