FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - The Campbell Creek Science Center (CCSC) of Anchorage Alaska is offering distance education programs for students around the world.

The Center is offering teachers and parents alike the opportunity to teach their children about nature, science, and other subjects. CCSC seeks to engage students in outdoor experiences that increase appreciation, connection, and stewardship of Alaska’s public lands and natural resources.

“We’ve created a whole suite of distance learning programs for students and they all align with Alaska state standards as well as the common core math and English language arts standards. Distance learning programs range in topics, everything from Alaskan animals, Beaks, Wings, And Feet which is about birds, Watershed Wonders, Creek Side Curiosities, and Dynamic Glaciers,” said Director of Campbell Creek Science Center Nancy Patterson.

The programs range in length from 30 to 60 minutes, and aim to be easier for kids to have fun and stay focused for a short amount of time with outside activities related to what they have learned.

“We also have some other programs such as Alaska Explorers which is an enrichment based program for students. It focuses on science and also on team building, and we have it set up kids who are K through 3rd grade as well as 4th through 6th grade,” said Patterson.

Students can join Alaska Explorers every Wednesday and potentially be connected to students around the world.

“There’s a lot of movement. We’re incorporating in science and also a reflection -- so kids are doing a variety of things to help with their language arts, their science comprehension, physical education, and overall that enjoyment of the natural world,” said Patterson.
