Lathrop volleyball celebrates their senior class with a win over West Valley
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - The Lathrop Malemutes volleyball program celebrated their outgoing seniors with a sweep over their in-town rivals in the West Valley Wolfpack Thursday night. The Malemutes were able to get the win for Rachel Powers, Harmony La’apui, Jenna Sager, Aubree Reed and Va’Lencia Strange.
“I have had such a fun time playing for Lathrop.” said Strange about her time with the Malemutes.
Lathrop was able to earn a sweep thanks to T.T. Tagovailoa and La’apui. Tagovailoa dished out 31 assists while La’apui had 15 kills on the night. La’apui has been on tear lately for the purple and gold after scoring 20 kills the night prior against the Monroe Catholic Rams.
“It’s been great, we have great team chemistry,” said Rachel Powers. “I feel like I learned a lot from all of the girls.”
This is back to back sweeps for Lathrop who are preparing for the 2020 Mid-Alaska Conference tournament which is set for next week at Lathrop High School.
“It’s some of my favorite times of my life,” said Aubree Reed. “I met all my best friends here.”
Lathrop’s next match is set for November 9 against North Pole while West Valley faces the Patriots on November 11. The MAC conference tournament begins November 13 with West Valley facing Lathrop in the semifinals at 6 P.M. The winner will take on North Pole at 2 P.M. on the 14th.
