Startup Week Alaska 2020 provides education and opportunities to small businesses and startups
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) -2020 has been a difficult year for small businesses in the state of Alaska and across the U.S. In order to assist the development of small startup businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic, Techstar’s Startup Week Alaska is an online series of events running until the November 22nd.
Nigel Sharp, startup and innovation manager at Alaska ICE, the Center for Innovation, Commercialization, and Entrepreneurship told us, “We currently have 40 events spanning 6 or 7 communities. This is an opportunity to learn from peers who work in various businesses, and sort of celebrate startups in general by sharing in discussion, sharing conversation, and also learning new skills and practices from one an other.”
These online events are all free to attend, and could prove to be beneficial resources for small business owners and startup enthusiasts.
“There are investors at these events that are actively engaging in trying to learn about startups. There are ecosystem builders who have access to resources, who can point you in the direction of places you can learn more about businesses. We have educators who are engaged in teaching about entrepreneurship -- some very good minds there to pick brains with, as well as peers. It’s a chance to network and engage,” said Sharp
The available events range from tutorials and seminars to presentations from established successful business owners.
“It’s a really tough time right now for businesses throughout the state, and the opportunity to just be there amongst other peers and be somewhat aspirational for a week where we start thinking about what the future of Alaska looks like and how we can work together to build that future Alaska is really exciting. It’s an aspirational week to bring together those future employers. Fingers crossed!” said Sharp
