Pet of the Week: Stanley the plucky Rooster
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - It’s time to meet Stanley, a young rooster looking for a loving flock to call his own.
Here’s what Kimberly Imbert, Animal Shelter Operations Supervisor with Fairbanks North Star Borough Animal Shelter, had to say about our Pet of the Week:
“Stanley is a young Barred Rock mix rooster. He came to the shelter as a stray with incomplete paperwork. Stanley would really love to join a flock of hens, or a bachelor group of other roosters. He is very handsome, very personable.
Stanley also has other stray rooster friends that will be coming available soon at the shelter, and we have quite a variety of breeds. So they can go into different kinds of flocks or be a really beautiful bachelor group in someone’s home. Roosters typically do well if there is one per six hens, or sometimes they can get along if there are just multiple roosters and no hens.
Chickens are really smart creatures, and they’re really great to have if you have the right set up to be in a warm coop for the winter. They can be clicker trained. A lot of people don’t know how intelligent chickens are but they really are awesome little animals. So, if you have the set up to keep them happy and warm this winter, please consider adopting one of our roosters.
Stanley also has dog, cat, and turtle friends looking for loving homes as well.”
