FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - It’s winter time in Alaska, which means people are hitting the trails to ski. Beaver Sports in Fairbanks are holding a free event at the Birch Hill Recreation Area for Nordic ski lessons.

The event will be on December 7 from 6 P.M. to 7 P.M. at the flag pole up on Birch Hill. This event is for for 14-year-olds to 80+ beginners and there will be both skate and classic technique lessons.

“With all these people in Fairbanks sitting inside and that we feel the urge to show them this wonderful spot.” said Beaver Sports’ Tobias Albrightsen.

The recent warm weather for the month of December in Fairbanks has made the trails perfect for skiing.

“What’s really nice about that is that the snow hardens and get’s really fast,” said Albrightsen on the conditions. “For beginners, it’s a little bit challenging but for the more experienced skiers that’s when it becomes really fun.”

According to the National Weather Service, the temperature on Monday will be around -2°F at 5P.M. Beaver Sports plans to hold these free lessons on the first and third Mondays of the winter months.
