32nd annual George Bloom Memorial Run set for Saturday
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - On Saturday, the 32nd annual George Bloom Memorial Run will be held for a mid-December race. This will be a three mile race out on Chena Pump Road.
The run is set for December 12 at 10 A.M. at Frosty Feet Running Company. Race organizers are encouraging runners to wear reflective gear. COVID-19 protocols and will feature a staggered start. The Race honors George Bloom, a key figure in the Fairbanks running community.
“He passed away when I was two, so I only get to hear stories about him,” said Monty Bloom, George’s grandson. “But there is a bunch of older folks who knew him on a personal level that sometimes come out to these runs and give a little speech about who he was as a person, but also who he was as a runner and as a runner in the community.
“It is special to me to be able to host something in memory of him. I am hoping he would be smiling knowing we are still getting out there and doing something that he loved himself.” Monty Bloom added.
Bloom says they will also be serving refreshments after the run. Sign-ups will are set to end by 9:45 A.M. with a course safety briefing following shortly.
