FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Insurance company Moda Health is developing an awareness campaign about the COVID-19 vaccine to help inform Alaskans.

The campaign is dedicated to the core questions regarding the vaccine. As of Thursday, Moda is currently waiting on approval from the FDA on the vaccine.

“Once that happens we think that the vaccine will be available to Alaskans possibly as soon as next week and it really just hinges on that approval by the FDA. But you know right now we’re mainly working on an awareness campaign, as far as what the vaccine benefit will look like -- providers, pharmacies, members, etc. Once distribution of the vaccine begins, then we’ll really start working on an education campaign for people who want to get vaccinated,” said Jason Gootee, Vice President of Strategic Market Development at Moda Health.

The vaccine will be initially available to essential front line medical workers, possibly individuals over the age of 65, as well as those with health conditions that qualify them to receive the vaccine. It is possible that additional vaccine distribution can begin in late spring or early summer.

In 2021, Moda Health will begin offering individual plans to residents of the Fairbanks North Star Borough and can receive direct communications regarding the COVID-19 vaccine.

“So we’re going to be working on some direct communications with our membership in Alaska as well as the other markets that we operate in. It’s really just around the safety and the efficacy of the vaccine, make sure people know that it’s safe and that it’s ok to get it should they choose to do so. And then we’ll focus really on how you go and get it. What providers can you get the vaccine from? When you might be able to do that,” commented Gootee.
