FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - The Fairbanks Community Food Bank is hard at work this holiday season supporting other organizations in their food distribution. They’re assisting both the Salvation Army as well as Santa’s Helpers, providing food to those in need this holiday season.

“At Christmas time, this is when we have the opportunity to support the Salvation Army and their distribution. We’re able to supply those boxes to them, they’re going to pick them up tomorrow (Friday) and start doing their distribution. We’ve got Santa’s Helpers who are going to be using our space this weekend. Wonderful partnerships! We have the opportunity to support their program as well. Christmas time is an opportunity for us to just support the wonderful agencies that always come around us each year,” said Anne Weaver, CEO of the Fairbanks Community Food Bank.

The Fairbanks Community Food Bank is always looking for more donations.

Weaver explained, “At Christmas time, we are able to support the Salvation Army’s distribution and Santa’s Helpers’ distribution - but also 52 weeks out of the year we’re providing regular food boxes. So the biggest push that we have right now is for normal food boxes. We need things like canned soups, boxed goods, anything that’s in your pantry that you like sharing with your family, those are the items we need for making those emergency food boxes, and those are the items we’re lowest on.”

Despite the adversity brought on by COVID-19, 2020 has been a year of achievement for the Fairbanks Community Food Bank.

“2020 has been a success at the Fairbanks Community Food Bank because you, this community - Tanana Valley, North Pole, Fairbanks - you have worked so hard to make sure that your neighbors are taken care of. Thank you for supporting the Fairbanks Community Food Bank, we cannot do it without you,” said Weaver.
