FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Non-profit organization The Bread Line is hard at work providing meals to those less fortunate.

The Bread Line is an anti-hunger organization based in Fairbanks that works to provide warm meals to those in need.

“We have four separate anti hunger programs that we do, but for the most part we’re known for Stone Soup Café which is a soup kitchen [that] runs Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. It’s been kind of a wild ride during the pandemic. We saw our numbers just shoot up in the early springtime right around April, and it just stayed that way the whole time. So we’ve been serving more food to more people than we ever have before,” said Hannah Hill, Executive Director for The Bread Line.

On top of serving meals, The Bread Line also has programs providing food service job training and a community garden.

The Bread Line has had to adapt to the dangers brought on by COVID-19. “It’s been really intense, as we’ve had to change the entire way that we do our service here in order to protect our guests as well as our staff and volunteers who make this all possible. So we’re grateful to be able to have an opportunity to work with other organizations here in this town like No Limits and Re-Entery Coalition. Everybody is just fantastic because we serve a lot of the same population. By working together, we’re able to get food out - hot nutritious food in the morning time. No Limits is helping folks find their feet and also stay warm and safe during that,” commented Hill.

The Bread Line works alongside other organizations like fellow non-profit No Limits to help those in need.

“When we get a bounty of something, we try to share it with them also. Like recently West Mark just gave us so much coffee - like so much coffee - that we were able to bring down several cases to them. Or if we have leftovers for whatever reason, then we’ll bring them down that day also so that they’ll be able to utilize that food surplus,” said Hill.

The Bread Line is always looking for donations of food, monetary donations, and volunteers. For more information, visit their website.
