FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - The Alaska Travel Industry Association (ATIA) hosts an annual convention to assist local tourism-bolstering businesses. At this year’s virtual convention the ATIA ran a Shark Tank inspired contest which was won by Bethany and Terry Boyd, owners of Denali Hostel and Cabins.

The Alaska Tourism Shark Tank is based on the reality TV show Shark Tank, where entrepreneurs try to convince investors to fund their business ventures. The winners this year were the Co-owners of Denali Hostel and Cabins, located 14 Miles south of Denali park entrance. Bethany and Terry Boyd won $8,000 for their pitch to build an outdoor dining area which they say will benefit travelers by providing an improved COVID safe space.

“With COVID we’re trying not to have a lot of people in there. We’re limiting it to six people at a time which limits what people can do in there and how much time they can spend in there. The outdoor kitchen will be great. It will give us some extra room, but it will also be a COVID safe environment for people to socialize,” said Bethany Boyd.
