FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - On Monday, January 4th, The Fairbanks Literacy Council began its GED registration week.

Those looking to register for GED classes can register at the Literacy Council of Alaska’s office at 517 Gaffney Street.

“We’re hosting a week long registration event. You can drop by anytime between 11 and 3 p.m. to our office. We’re doing kind of a one stop shop with everything you need to get started - so filling out the paperwork, giving assessments on the spot, or you can make appointments to come back later this week, all in effort to get you started fresh for the new year. And study hall and normal classes will start up next week,” said Brian Davis, GED Program Coordinator and Lead Instructor for the Literacy Council of Alaska.

The Literacy Council of Alaska offers adults and high school students the opportunity to take classes to prepare for the GED exam, as well as register for the exam itself.

“This is a great opportunity, and I’ve made contact with the local school district [and] the high schools. We have a healthy working relationship just trying to help get the student somewhere positive, you know, before they completely abandon their education. So if there is a high school student out there, that online education isn’t working out well for them, stop by to see us just to consider. Consider getting your GED and moving on to college or working, as opposed to completely dropping and abandoning your education. There are options out there. We are here and ready to help,” said Davis.
