One dead in cabin fire near Fairbanks

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - A fire off McGrath Road claimed the life of one man early Tuesday morning. According to the Alaska Division of Fire and Life Safety, the fire was reported around 2:00 a.m. and the Steese Volunteer Fire Department responded.

Once on scene they found a secondary cabin on the property fully engulfed in flames and were told there was likely an adult male inside. Firefighters were able to get control of the fire and enter the cabin. Inside, they found human remains.

A deputy state fire marshal from Fairbanks is investigating the cause of the fire. The human remains were sent to the state medical examiner’s office to confirm the identity and determine the cause of death.

According to the press release, their are no indications of foul play and the investigation is ongoing.
