FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Appointments are now available for Alaskans that are 65 and older to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

In a press release by the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services, the vaccine appointments are part of phase 1b of the COVID-19 vaccine distribution plan.

“All clinics who have received COVID-19 vaccine should continue to vaccinate the remaining health care workers from Phase 1a who wish to be vaccinated, but we are also excited to open up appointments for Alaskans who are 65 years of age or older,” said Alaska’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. Anne Zink.

Earliest vaccination for those 65 and older will begin on January 11th. Those who are not in phase 1a or phase 1b are asked to not make appointments at this time, and those who do not qualify and have made an appointment are asked to cancel their appointments so Alaskans in the earlier tiers can make appointments. New appointments will be added regularly as more vaccine providers sign up and more vaccine is available. To learn if you qualify for a vaccination appointment, visit Covidvax.Alaska.gov to take a quiz that will answer if a resident qualifies or not.

For those who qualify, click on the link labeled “Locate a provider to schedule an appointment”. The website will bring up a map, and in the top right corner there is a search bar. Simply type in “Fairbanks” and a list of vaccination sites with instructions on how to make an appointment will appear.

“For ours, they put in their first and last name, their date of birth, their phone number, contact information and email - and then we ask some questions about general health that we need to ask for the CDC, general consent. Then it takes them to the scheduling page where they can actually schedule their appointment,” said Joan Sonnenburg, Senior Operations Director for the Clinical Support Services for Foundation Health.

Appointments are limited at this time due to vaccines still being in short supply.
