Pet of the Week: Banderas the friendly Guinea Pig
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - He may not be the heartthrob Antonio you’re looking for, but Banderas still has a beautiful mane and tender, whimsical eyes to match....(sigh!). You can even watch TV together! Let’s meet him in this edition of Pet of the Week.
Here’s what Britley Calkins, an Animal Handler with Fairbanks North Star Borough Animal Shelter, had to say about our Pet of the Week:
“Banderas is a two year old guinea pig that we have here at the shelter. Banderas was surrendered to the shelter because he wasn’t getting along with the other guinea pigs in the house. Because of this we do require that Banderas is housed separate from any other rodents that you might have in the home.
He’s super sweet with people, he got along great with the children in the home. He even enjoyed watching TV on the couch next to them. Banderas is a social little guy with his animal tenders. One thing about guinea pigs if you’re not familiar is that they do require special treats such as Vitamin C because they lack that enzyme in their diet. So that is something that you’ll have to be aware of if you’re interested in adopting one of these little guys. They also require further dietary needs - Timothy hay, and those little guinea pig pellets.
If you’re interested in meeting Banderas or any of his other guinea pig friends, we also have chicken friends, a goat friend here at the shelter, and many dogs and cats. Please give us a call.”
