FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - The Fairbanks Ice Dogs announced the remainder of their season schedule this week with the state of Minnesota set to loosen their COVID-19 restrictions. The Ice Dogs have a tentative date of March 12 to return to the Big Dipper Ice Arena in Fairbanks, Alaska.

The Ice Dogs restarted their season on December 31 against the Janesville Jets, and they can look to their schedule to see who and where they are playing for the remainder of the 2021 North American Hockey League (NAHL) season. The Ice Dogs are set to make their home from home debut in Marshall, Minnesota who are hosting the Ice Dogs at the Red Baron Arena and Expo. Fairbanks will play their first match in Marshall on January 21 when they take on the Austin Bruins.

“It’s a good thing to finally get all the pieces put back together,” said General Manager Rob Proffitt. “Excited all around and ready to play a few games this year down in Marshall and obviously on the road and get back to the Dipper.”

The Ice Dogs will circle March 12 on their calendars as the tentative return to the Big Dipper in the Golden Heart City. They are set to face the Kenai River Brown Bears for their home opener. The last time they played at the Dipper they lost 4-2 to the Northeast Generals on March 7, a week before the NAHL suspended operations and the season due to the COVID-19 global pandemic. According to Proffitt, the hard work that was put in to making the schedule came from the NAHL league offices and the teams in the Midwest Division.

“The league office did a great job and I think the most rewarding, encouraging, I don’t even know the right word, was our division,” said Proffitt. “The way we worked together through it. I think it’ll be kind of a glue piece for years to come. We’ve always got along good, no question, but I think this really brought us together and we really worked together with the common goal of getting kids on the ice and it was pretty cool to be a part of.”

The Ice Dogs are set to end their regular season on May 8 against Kenai at the Big Dipper.
