FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Former Fairbanks Ice Dogs goaltender Mattias Sholl is taking the next step in his young career as he announced on social media that he is committing to the Bemidji State University Beavers on the Division-I level. Sholl was on the Ice Dogs from 2018-20.

Sholl compiled a 46-9-7 record during his time in Fairbanks with a 92.9% save percentage in between the pipes. Sholl also led the Ice Dogs to dominant seasons, which included a deep playoff run in 2019 and was looking the same way in 2020 before the season was cut short by COVID-19.

“I’m very excited for Mattias,” said Fairbanks Head Coach Trevor Stewart. “He was obviously a big part of our team for the last couple of years and now he gets an opportunity at the next level and I think the Bemidji State Beavers are getting a really good goaltender and a really good person. I would think that he’s going to be successful there and there is really no doubt in my mind so.”

Sholl is currently (3-8-0) on the season for the Youngstown Phantoms in the United States Hockey League.
