FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - The Fairbanks Police Department is seeking the public’s help in locating a missing adult. Steven Richard Hjelm, 54, was last seen at his sister’s house on January 9th.

He is described as five foot eight, approximately 175 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

According to Fairbanks Police Department Lieutenant, Anthony Laska, Hjelm is believed to have left the house while everyone else was asleep. Laska says that Hjelm was in town for because of a back injury, while emphasizing that this isn’t a criminal investigation and no foul play is suspected.

“He has decided to walk off at this point. He is an adult and you know, hopefully he is going to contact his family, or contact the police department to let us know that he is okay.”

Laska said that this case is not in any way connected to other missing persons in the Fairbanks area, and that there is no reason to worry.

Anyone who has information about Hjelm’s whereabouts is asked to contact Lieutenant Laska at 450-6500
