Pet of the Week: Tangelo - spry and sweet Alaskan Husky
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - It’s time to meet Tangelo - the Alaskan Husky sweeter than the fruit he’s named after.
Here’s what Britley Calkins, an Animal Handler with Fairbanks North Star Borough Animal Shelter, had to say about our Pet of the Week:
“Tangelo is a seven-year-old Alaskan Husky mix. He’s a sweet boy that’s been at the shelter for a little over a week now and he’s got quite the personality on him.
He can be a bit dog specific, so he would do best possibly in a house without a dog, or he does seem to be friendly with dogs that are a bit older. He just doesn’t like the hyper energy of puppies.
He’s pretty good with potty training, but this is something again you’d need to work on with him.
He has some of the basic commands down, he knows how to sit and how to shake. But he would still benefit from an obedience class. Tangelo is very treat motivated which is great for training as well as bonding with his new owners.
Since Tangelo is an Alaskan Husky mix, he possibly has a higher prey drive. So if you do have any cats, livestock, or smaller animals in the house, this is something to take caution to while introducing Mr. Tangelo.
Tangelo is said to do great riding in cars and he’s just looking for somebody to go on adventures with. Even though he’s an older guy, he has lots of energy and loves being outdoors.
If you are interested in meeting Mr. Tangelo or any of his other doggy, kitty, even turtle friends, please give the shelter a call!”
