FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - The National Recreation and Park Association is honoring Fairbanks North Star Borough (FNSB) Parks and Recreation employee Lauren Eck as one of the top 30 Parks and Recreation employees under age 30 in the U.S.

According to Eck, “The National Recreation and Park Association is a huge organization in the Parks and Recreation field, so to have been nominated and selected for that is a huge honor.”

Eck has worked with the department since 2017. As a Recreation Specialist III, her job entails project coordination, making activity guides, event planning and marketing, among other tasks.

FNSB Parks and Recreation Director Michael Bork explained that Eck very much deserves the honor.

“Lauren has been a hugely valuable member to the Parks and Rec department,” Bork said.

“There’s at least, probably, easily, 15 to 20 thousand Parks and Rec professionals in the country - and to be chosen as one of the top 30 under 30 is truly a distinction,” he added.

Eck explained that creativity is a necessary aspect of working in her field, saying, “You have to be able to come up with ideas that are needed by the community, but also just neat ideas, fun ideas, especially during COVID.

Bork added being flexible as an important quality. “Lauren is supremely flexible in both her skills and what she can do, and what she’s willing to take on and learn,” he said.

Among other projects in Fairbanks, Eck has worked on a cardboard boat regatta race and the Halloween Trick or Treat Town.
