Rams guard Katie Bast joins 1,000-point club

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - In just her junior season, Monroe Catholic guard Katie Bast surpassed the coveted 1,000-point mark for her high school basketball career in a 53-20 Aurora Conference win over the Hutchison Hawks Tuesday.

Bast amassed over 900 points during her freshman and sophomore campaigns and is currently Monroe’s leading scorer at 14 points per game this year.

“She is tireless, plays with a lot of joy and has no fear,” Monroe girls basketball coach Bob Burcell said of Bast. “If we are playing a Lathrop or a West Valley or somebody, Katie is going to play the same way, it doesn’t matter who she is playing against, she is going to do the same things that she does. She doesn’t show fear and I guess that is what I mean by fearless.”

Bast was named to the Aurora All-Conference Team during her sophomore season and was most recently was named an All-Tournament member of the Mt. McKinley Bank Holiday Classic at the end of January.

Bast joins two current members of the Monroe Catholic family reach 1,000 career points, as boys basketball players Quinn McHenry and Malachi Bradley have previously eclipsed the sought after milestone.
