Fairbanks Public Health seeks volunteers for upcoming vaccination events
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Fairbanks Public Health is seeking volunteers to assist with upcoming COVID-19 vaccination events.
Public Health has clinics to distribute vaccine at the Carlson Center, with the last one vaccinating over 1,600 residents.
Elizabeth Burton, Regional Nurse Manager for Fairbanks Public Health told us “We have been having these very large scale PODs (Point of Dispensing) at the Carlson Center, which served almost up to 900 people a day going through receiving the vaccine. These same people will be coming back in three or four weeks for their second dose, and we will also be continuing to add more and more opportunities for Fairbanks residents to get that first vaccine. So we’re asking the community to help us sustain this process by volunteering for the opportunity to serve at the Carlson Center as well.”
Burton explained that residents can sign up to volunteer at a new website created by Public Health. “We created a website, it’s called Fairbanks Area Citizens Corps, and we’re looking right now on the website for vaccine clinic volunteers. The web address is fairbanksacc.org, and that stands for Fairbanks Area Citizens Corps. On the website you’ll find upcoming events. We have events coming up on February 25th, March 2nd, March 5th, and there will be additional events that will be updated here on the website as we schedule them with the Carlson Center.”
There are several positions to volunteer for, and all positions are needed.
“We have opportunities available to volunteer for parking lot greeters and indoor greeters, assistance with check-in, handling vaccines, or even being a vaccinator. Certain positions require a license or credentials such as a vaccinator, but many of the fantastic opportunities we have require just a positive attitude and a willingness to come to the Carlson with a lot of goodwill and energy. This is a great way that you can support your community and support your neighbors. So please consider going to fairbanksacc.org and signing up for one or more events,” said Burton.
The website also includes ways to donate PPE, masks and other services.
