Lora Reinbold responds to admonishing letter from Dunleavy
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Alaska Senator Lora Reinbold held a press conference on March 4th, in which she responded to criticisms leveled against her in a letter from Governor Dunleavy in February.
Dated February 18th, the letter accused the senator of abdicating the tenets of her oath as a public servant, telling Reinbold, “You impugned the motivations of unelected and non-political employees working for the State of Alaska with baseless allegation that, on multiple occasions, were demonstrated to you to be false.”
The letter also served as notice that Alaska’s Executive Branch will no longer respond to or participate with Reinbold on any matter concerning herself or her position as Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
At the press conference, Reinbold admonished the governor, saying, “The governor’s actions are completely unwarranted and unconstitutional. The governor has made a pernicious attack upon liberty.”
She called the letter unprecedented, and an attempt to intimidate those who question the governor and his administration.
“I am admonishing the governor to retract the letter immediately, to issue a sincere apology and to begin to take respectful steps to rebuild the trust in the legislative process and recognize the Judiciary Committee for the benefit of the people we serve.”
