Pet of the Week: Trigger the happy-go-lucky Husky Australian Cattle Dog mix
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Today’s Pet of the Week is an excitable pup!
This three-year old Alaskan Husky mix has lots of energy and would love a home, but don’t get too “trigger-happy”, he needs some training!
Here’s what Britley Calkins, an animal handler with Fairbanks North Star Borough Animal Shelter, had to say:
“Trigger is a three-year-old Alaskan Husky Australian Cattle Dog mix. Trigger came back to the shelter after a seven-month adoption period at his home because he was a little bit nippy with the children in the house. He has a strong herding instinct, so we are requiring that Trigger goes to a home without children under five, because he kind of likes to herd the smaller animals and the smaller children around the house.
Trigger is said to know some basic commands but would benefit from a basic obedience class. He’s also known to jump fences, so I would not trust him alone in a fenced in yard. He has a lot of energy and is looking for an active home. Trigger does alright with other dogs, but you should take caution when introducing him to other pets in the home.
He does not like cats however, so we are requiring that he goes to a home without cats. We don’t know how Trigger is with pocket pets or livestock; but because of that herding instinct, one should definitely take caution when introducing him to other animals in the home.
Trigger is a super sweet guy, he’s just looking for a family to call home. If you are interested in Trigger or any of the other dogs, kitties, or bunny friends we have at the shelter, please give us a call!”
