Amazon opens furthest north air gateway in Fairbanks
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Amazon has opened it’s first air gateway in Fairbanks, it is also Amazon’s farthest north gateway in the world and the second gateway in the state.
According to a press release from Amazon, the operation will bring an additional 50 jobs to Fairbanks as well as help them deliver items faster and to more locations. Aircraft operated by Sun Country Airlines for Amazon Air will be flying daily to Fairbanks. The gateway will be managed by Naniq Global Logistics.
Airport Communications and Marketing Manager Melissa Stepovich says that this is the first daily cargo flight to the airport from the lower-48 since 2007. She also says that this will help the airport continue to increase its business.
“The world follows Amazon and it has been very well publicized that we are here and they are here. So hopefully that will do very good things for us,” Stepovich said.
