FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) -Missing person Steven Hjelm was found deceased Thursday near the Week Field Estate Apartments.

The 54-year-old man had been missing since January 9th after leaving his sister’s apartment near South Cushman.

Hjelm worked for years in Delta Junction at the Stevens Village Buffalo Farm.

He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to snowmachine. He had traveled to Fairbanks seeking medical treatment after a fall left him with an injured back and a small concussion.

The family of Hjelm says he was found in a storage unit connected to an un-rented apartment. While no obvious signs of foul play could be seen, the family is waiting on an autopsy from the state medical examiner’s office to find out the exact cause of death.

The family of Steven Hjelm is planning a memorial service in Fairbanks and Delta Junction.
