FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Governor Mike Dunleavy has issued a proclamation recognizing and supporting Vietnam Veterans Day. The national day of recognition was signed into law by President Trump in 2017, and is set aside every March 29 to honor veterans’ courage and sacrifice in fighting the war.

March 29, 1973 is the day that the last U.S. combat troops left Vietnam.

Dunleavy said in his proclamation that, “Our nation is stronger because of the sacrifices made by these servicemen and women and we honor them for all they have done for us... and today let us pay tribute to the fallen, the missing, the wounded; to those who served, and those families who made sacrifices in defense of the values we hold dear.”

The governor says he encourages all Alaskans to recognize and honor those who have served.
