FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) -On Tuesday, the Fairbanks North Star Borough Board of Education voted to suspend the search for a new district superintendent. They will no longer be moving forward with finalists Justin Barnes, Vickie Cartwright, or Corey Weiss.

According to School Board President Tim Doran the community’s responses from the superintendent public forum were taken under consideration, but ultimately the decision to suspend the search was based on the assessments of each board member in a unanimous 7-0 vote.

“We felt that each of them brought something to the table, but that we didn’t have a match at this time. I look at the superintendent search... it’s lengthy, robust, and multifaceted, so we haven’t ended the search. We’re continuing the search to find the best match for our community and the leadership we want for our district, our students most importantly, and that contribution to the broader community,” said Doran.

At its special meeting this Saturday, April 10, the School Board will review its options for the next step in moving forward with the superintendent search, which includes the possibility of appointing an interim superintendent.
