FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) -North Pole Middle School students got a surprise when they were evacuated from their building Friday afternoon. Students and staff walked to North Pole Elementary School after visible cracks were discovered on an external wall.

School district officials completed their assessment of the situation Saturday and have determined the school is structurally sound and is not in danger of collapse.

The crack is likely due to poor detailing of the wall-to-roof beam connection. It will be corrected at a later date.

School will resume as normal on Monday.
