FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - The Fairbanks Community will be getting an upgraded skatepark

At Thursday night’s Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly meeting, $985,000 in funding was approved in the capital improvements resolution towards an update for the park.

This money would reconstruct the John Weaver Memorial Skatepark to add a variety of features like large bowls, pump tracks, half pipes, and more space. The park will be designed for use in the summer and winter months.

Josh Poe, the Vice President of the Fairbanks Skatepark Coalition enjoys taking his kids to the park. He said this has been something the Coalition has wanted to do for years. “It’s really been a lot of work and it’s a dream come true. We’ve had this park for a while and it’s in desperate need of an upgrade. We’ve been trying to do it for a very long time and it’s finally going to happen.”

Construction for the park will begin in the summer of 2022.
