Fairbanks School Board selects interim district superintendent

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - The Fairbanks North Star Borough School District has announced the appointment of an interim superintendent for the 2021-22 school year.
After deliberations during a special school board meeting, the Board of Education unanimously voted to select Karen Melin.
“Karen Melin brings an understanding of education, Alaska, the Fairbanks community and our school district to the position,” said the release.
Melin is currently the Deputy Commissioner for Alaska Department of Education and Early Development. She previously worked for the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District as a District Mentor, Intervention Specialist, and Assessment Coordinator. She has a strong background in literacy and assessment as well as work with educational groups throughout the State of Alaska.
