UAF’s Keith Champagne resigns from Vice Chancellor position
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - University of Alaska Fairbanks Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs and Athletics Dr. Keith Champagne filed his resignation Monday, according to the University.
Champagne began his his role as Vice Chancellor in December of 2017, before serving dual roles as both the VC and Athletic Director from June 2019-January 2021.
Chancellor Dan White has appointed Ali Knabe, Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, to serve as acting VCSA before naming an interim as they search for a permanent replacement.
Since January, the University appointed Dr. Peggy Keiper as interim Athletic Director, before she stepped down citing health reasons with Carl McAloose currently serving the role as interim AD.
A staff member of the Athletic Department was put on administrative leave after UAF self-reported potential NCAA violations.
Executive Senior Associate Director of Athletics and Senior Woman Administrator Terlynn Olds accepted a Director of Athletics and Recreation position at LaGrange College in April.
Now, Champagne has resigned as department searches for a full-time Athletic Director, with the hopes of filling the position by June.
Champagne recently was awarded the Bobby Cumming Lifetime Achievement Award in diversity by Central Washington University for his lifelong commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
Prior to UAF, Champagne served as the chief diversity officer for intercollegiate athletics at CWU and has over 30 years of experience throughout student services and athletics.
