FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - United Way of the Tanana Valley has a new Executive Director.

Amanda Hanson will take over the position from interim Executive Director Jennifer Luke on Monday, May 10th.

United Way is an organization that helps Fairbanks area non-profits connect with resources, including donations and volunteers.

Recipients of United Way services include Thrivalaska, the Literacy Council and Bread Line, Inc.

According to Hanson, many non-profits have seen a decline in donations since the COVID-19 pandemic began. “The agencies didn’t get as much funding because people, rightly so, couldn’t donate. They couldn’t give as much as they could, as much as they wanted to because they had to survive.”

With a sense of normalcy returning, Hanson says she intends to increase the organization’s social media use, while keeping its traditional funding streams open. “We’re going to venture into some other things, like expanding our social media presence, and really trying to appeal to a variety of people and generations. So we’re not just going to rely on a few revenue streams. We’re going to see what other options are out there, and they’re going to be different options than what people have seen in the past, so it’s kind of exciting to see what we’re going to come up with.”
